SMCS RISK has been awarded a contract to design a Workplace, Health and Safety Guideline for Cambodia’s construction industry, in partnership with Cambodia’s Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC).
The Project, titled ‘Investing in Infrastructure (3i), is supported by the Australian Governments Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Palladium Group, an Australian organisation who works with governments, businesses and investors to solve the worlds most pressing challenges.
In November 2019, the Law on Construction in Cambodia was promulgated and after revision of the Ministerial Prakas, the MLMPUC determined that the most efficient way to provide the necessary guidance and instruction to all stakeholders involved in the construction industry was to create a Workplace, Health & Safety Guideline that can describe Cambodia’s construction WHS requirements.
“We are extremely happy to be awarded this contract. SMCS has been at the forefront of developing workplace, health & safety in Cambodia, particularly with developing and providing safety training courses to companies across all sectors. Being awarded this contract not only highlights our technical expertise in this area but allows SMCS to further work with key stakeholders to develop a safer construction industry for everyone.” said Steve Morrish, CEO of SMCS GROUP.
“Implementing a standardised Workplace, Health & Safety Guideline that is adopted nationally across Cambodia’s construction industry is a great step forward in promoting safety in the workplace.’ Morrish said.
The Workplace, Health & Safety Guideline will be developed in both Khmer and English and establish Cambodia’s Construction Workplace, Health & Safety standard.
